Jackfruit - Techniques to make sure plants through seeds retains same characteristics of mother plant

There is a problem that in the case of Jackfruit when we plant seeds, it may not have same characteristics of mother plant. In a recent discussion two farmers gave their traditional knowledge how to make this happen. I am giving their messages which came up in WhatsApp as it is.

ചക്ക കുരു നട്ടാൽ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന സന്താനം വരിക്കയോ കൂഴയോ എന്ന് പറയാൻ പറ്റില്ല. പക്ഷെ കുരുവിന്റെ രണ്ടു പീസും തുല്യ വലുപ്പം ആണെങ്കിൽ വരിക്ക ആയിരിക്കും. എങ്കിലും മാതൃ വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ രുചി ആയിരിക്കണമെന്നില്ല

 Translation - When you plant using seeds, we can not guarantee if the resulting plant gives 'Varikka' or 'Koozha' (also called pazha chakka). If the two pieces of the seed have the same size, then it will be 'Varikka' still it may not be the same taste of mother tree.

While reading a malayalam book called 'Traditional farming - പൈതൃക കൃഷി  "on traditional agriculture by Paulson Tham, the same thing is mentioned. On page 79 it says - "ചക്ക കുരു നെടുകെ പിളർന്നാൽ പ്ലാവ് വരിക്ക". That means, if the seed breaks into equal pieces, then it will be a varikka tree.

വരിക്കപ്ലാവിന്റെ ചില്ലിക്കൊമ്പിൽ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ചക്കയുടെ കുരുനട്ടാൽ 90% വരിക്കപ്ലാവ് ആകും.

If you select seeds from fruits which comes in small branches, then it is sure that 90% of time,those seeds will result in 'Varikka' type.

Another piece of information which I heard from Jackfruit farmer Thomas - Cut the fruit into to equal pieces in length wise and select seeds which looks identical, that will show the same characteristics of the mother plant.

Another information which comes in facebook is that, saplings with cut in their leaves will be 'varikka'
